ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, the applicant must:
- Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551
- Currently enrolled as a high school senior who intends to enroll in an accredited post-secondary college or university located within the United States within a year of graduating high school, OR currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary college or university located within the United States, with a least 1 full year of educational requirements remaining
- Self-identify as African-American or Black.
- Have a current GPA of 2.8 or higher.
APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS
Submission requirements. In addition to the eligibility requirements, the applicant must submit a completed application. Applications that are incomplete will not be considered. A completed application will include:
- A 750-1000 word count essay
- OR
- A 2-minute video (minimum 120-second)
- Video should not be more than 3 minutes (in .mov format)
- Choose one of the three (3) subjects for your submission:
- Describe a time you demonstrated leadership
- Share a time you found a creative solution to a problem
- Write about an issue that you are passionate about, like social change, the arts, environmental change, etc.
Submit documents in the following naming convention:
FirstName_LastName_[essay, video, LOR, or GPA]_BBSF2026.xxx, where .xxx is .mov, .doc, or .pdf
. Foexample Mary_Jones_Essay_BBSF2026.pdf for the essay submission.
